THE GREATER OMAHA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY is a non-profit organization whose purpose is (1) to unite those persons interested in the pursuit and study of genealogy and family history; (2) to encourage the preservation of public and private records; and (3) to promote programs of education which support the growth and development of these fields.
MEETINGS are held at 6:30 PM on the third Wednesday of each month (except July, August and December) at Nebraska Methodist College (Josie Harper Campus) 720 N. 87th Street (87th & Burt) Omaha, NE. Enter through the front door on the east side of the building. Our meetings are on the third floor.. A picnic or other activity is held at a location to be announced in the newsletter in August. In December we usually go to a restaurant for our Holiday dinner. Currently, we plan in-person meetings in September, October and November of 2022. January, February and March 2023 will all be via Zoom, then April, May and June will once again be in-person.
NEWSLETTER: Westward Into Nebraska is published six times each year. The newsletter contains queries, calendar of events, historical data and news items.
SURNAME FILE: Each member is encouraged to complete a pedigree chart for inclusion in the Surname File which is available to members. The file allows members to learn who is interested in researching like surnames.
MEMBERSHIP: Open to everyone interested in genealogy (need not have Omaha ancestry.) Annual membership dues are set by the Society’s Board, subject to the approval of members. At the present, for emailed newsletters these dues are $20.00 for a single membership and $25.00 for a family membership (two persons at the same address). For printed newsletters it’s an extra $8.00. The fiscal year is from July 1 to June 30. Dues are payable in May or June and become delinquent as of June 30th.
